Website and Social Media

The cost of paying someone to build a website is approx $10,000 and this does not include issues linked to ongoing maintenance and or rights over the site. Therefore, in order to save money Angus has utilised Squarespace as a platform to build AquaUtopia's website and link in social media sites.

We are lucky to have the input of a number of people who for free have shared their good advice and this is much appreciated. In short, as with all aspects of building this business its been a steep learning curve but at the same time satisfying to learn new skills.

Business Development 2016 - May 2017

Everyone knows that starting a business involves a great many things. Each step involves a range of logistics, with many 'Firsts' and a diverse range of unknowns. Still whilst holding the big picture in mind (to grow / sell produce) at the end of the day its a journey of discovery, somethings work other things don't, hindsight is not to be dwelled upon, but rather learn, compartmentalise each step and always keep moving forward.

Formally called The Australian Barnacle Company here is a 22 minute film which provides an overview of the development of the business from 2016 - May 2017

Aquautopia Pty Ltd website goes live

Since 2016 Angus Cowan and Jon Day have been building an aqauculture business called Aquautopia Pty Ltd.

In short, AquaUtopia aims to cultivate Percebes (Gooseneck Barnacles) and Golden kelp. In doing this AquaUtopia is set to develop the world's first Percebe offshore aquaculture farm, whilst at the same time building Australia's first ever offshore kelp aquafarm.

Today our website www.aquautopia.com goes live. This is a soft opening and as you will see the website aims to project our purpose and provide a timeline of what we have achieved to this date. Looking ahead, in 2019 we aim to have cultivated and will be ready to harvest our first Percebes and Golden kelp crops. Parts of the website associated with products and sales is still in development. Regardless Jon and Angus hope you enjoy the website and feel free to comment, critique and ask questions.

Regards

Angus and Maria

Purchase of Top Cat and then Moving Her From Karratha Western Australia to Brisbane Queensland

After months of searching for the right boat Jon found Top Cat in Western Australia. Previously used to service the mining sector in Karratha & with the downturn impacting mining operations she seemed like a great buy. After making her sea worthy and adding four long range fuel tanks Jon set forth to sail Top Cat 1000 NM to Darwin, where after she would be transported 3000 km's by land back to Manly Harbour, Brisbane to undergo an extensive refit.
